About
The Temerty Faculty of Medicine is home to some of the world’s foremost medical educators and education researchers and scholars. We are proud of the passion, commitment and innovation that our faculty members bring to their diverse roles, and we celebrate their achievements in a number of ways.
Our Faculty offers over 50 internal awards to recognize significant contributions to medical education across the medical education continuum. We also nominate outstanding faculty and staff members for prestigious institutional, provincial, national and international awards. We recognize award recipients annually at the Education Achievement Celebration, an evening ceremony hosted by the Vice Dean, Medical Education.

Use the database below to find education-focused awards offered at the Faculty, University, national, and international levels. More than one filter can be applied in each of the criteria below.
If you are unsure about the suitability of a given candidate for an award, please book a consultation with the Research, Awards & Honours Officer in the Office of the Vice Dean, Medical Education. This database is updated regularly. Where there is any discrepancy between the database information and the linked award criteria, refer to the award criteria.
When to submit nominations
Nominations for most awards occur in two cycles: Fall (opens in mid-October) and Spring (opens in mid-March). You can filter by cycle below. To receive the call for nominations, sign up to our medical education awards mailing list.

3M National Teaching Fellowship
Recognizes excellence in educational leadership and teaching at the post-secondary level. The Fellowship is open to any individual currently teaching at a Canadian university or college, regardless of discipline, program, level, or term of appointment.
Type: Individual

- This is a highly-competitive award that takes considerable preparation and careful timing of nomination.

AAMC Alpha Omega Alpha Robert J. Glaser Distinguished Teacher Awards
Recognizes outstanding contributions to medical education made by gifted teachers. The nominee must hold the rank of Assistant Professor or higher in either a tenure or nontenure track.

AAMC Award for Excellence in Medical Education
Recognizes significant national impact on medical education, above and beyond one’s own institution. This may be a broad impact across the medical education continuum or an in-depth impact in a particular area, such as undergraduate medical education, graduate medical education, or interprofessional education.

AFMC Indigenous Health Advocacy Awards
Recognizes outstanding and continuous contributions to support work related to the health of Indigenous peoples or Indigenous medical education by an emerging leader (first 5-10 years of practice). Nominations are open to Indigenous, faculty members, staff members, and, or practicing physicians.

AFMC Indigenous Health Advocay Awards
Recognizes the outstanding dedication of an individual or faculty member towards the dismantling of anti-Indigenous racism and the advancement of cultural safety, advocacy, health equity and wellness of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit people. Nominations are open to Indigenous faculty members and staff.

AFMC John Ruedy Awards for Innovation In Medical Education
Recognizes innovation in learning aids or other teaching aids deemed by the medical community and medical education as valuable including advances in technology such as apps, websites, artificial intelligence, robots, avatars, games, etc. which are considered to be new additions to the educational toolkit for undergraduate, postgraduate or continuing medical education.
