Teaching in the Clinical Setting

Welcome to teaching in the clinical setting!  The resources below will help you achieve teacher effectiveness in a busy clinical setting.

All MD Program teachers are asked to become familiar with the following resources when preparing for their teaching roles (1) Psychological Safety, (2) Learner Mistreatment, and (3) MD Learner Accommodations.

Teaching Essentials for the Clinical Setting

Join us for the faculty development session on Teaching Essentials for the Clinical Setting, where you will learn how how to ask good questions, review a case, and give effective feedback.  It will also provide an introduction to workplace based assessments.

In addition to the faculty development session, the Clerkship Orientation video will review what you need to know when supervising a 3rd or 4th year medical student.

Clinical Assessment

Clinical supervisors are required to provide verbal and written feedback on Entrustable Professional Activities (EPAs), and to complete a clinical assessment forms. For more information, visit the Entrustable Professional Activities (EPA) in Clerkship website.

Professional Behaviour Assessment

Faculty are also required to support and assess the development of professional behaviours.  These resources are helpful in completing the new assessment form.

Learner Assessment of the Clinical Teacher
