About
The Temerty Faculty of Medicine is home to some of the world’s foremost medical educators and education researchers and scholars. We are proud of the passion, commitment and innovation that our faculty members bring to their diverse roles, and we celebrate their achievements in a number of ways.
Our Faculty offers over 50 internal awards to recognize significant contributions to medical education across the medical education continuum. We also nominate outstanding faculty and staff members for prestigious institutional, provincial, national and international awards. We recognize award recipients annually at the Education Achievement Celebration, an evening ceremony hosted by the Vice Dean, Medical Education.

Use the database below to find education-focused awards offered at the Faculty, University, national, and international levels. More than one filter can be applied in each of the criteria below.
If you are unsure about the suitability of a given candidate for an award, please book a consultation with the Research, Awards & Honours Officer in the Office of the Vice Dean, Medical Education. This database is updated regularly. Where there is any discrepancy between the database information and the linked award criteria, refer to the award criteria.
When to submit nominations
Nominations for most awards occur in two cycles: Fall (opens in mid-September) and Spring (opens in mid-March). You can filter by cycle below. To receive the call for nominations, sign up to our medical education awards mailing list.

Nominations for spring cycle awards will open in mid-March 2026.
Medical Education & Teaching Awards Database
CAME Certificate of Merit
Recognizes contributions to medical education deemed to be valuable within their medical school (teaching, assessment, evaluation, educational leadership, course coordination, education, research). All contributors to medical education in each school are eligible (undergraduate, postgraduate, CME/CPD and Faculty Development).

- Adjudication is carried out by Temerty.
Requirements:
- Short statement (~500 words) on how the nominee has contributed to medical education at the Temerty Faculty of Medicine via impact on teaching, assessment, evaluation, educational leadership, course coordination, education, or medical education research.
- Confirmation that the Department Chair or Vice Chair, Education supports this nomination on the basis that the nominee's accomplishments align with the award criteria

CAME Ian Hart Award
Recognizes senior faculty who have made an exceptional contribution to medical education throughout their academic career.

CAME Meridith Marks New Educator Award
Recognizes individuals in the first full-time phase of their educational professional career who have made a significant contribution to medical education.

CAME Mid-Career Achievement Award
This award recognizes a CAME member who is mid-career (i.e., 10-20 years since their first faculty appointment) and who demonstrates a continued pattern of meaningful contribution to medical education. This award is not intended to be a lifetime achievement award, but rather a recognition for those who consistently are working towards ensuring best practices in medical education across the continuum of training.

CAME Service Award
This award recognizes individuals who have demonstrated a commitment to improving education in medical education. This award will be presented to an individual who has made major contributions to service and leadership in medical education in Canada.

Charles Mickle Fellowship Award
Recognizes senior faculty who have made exceptional contributions to medical education at the University of Toronto throughout their careers. Nominee must be a physician who demonstrates exceptional and sustained contributions to medical education at the University of Toronto, including contributions to undergraduate, postgraduate and/or continuing professional development and faculty development.

CMA May Cohen Award for Women Mentors
Recognizes a female physician and CMA member who has demonstrated outstanding mentoring.

Recognizes exemplary dedication, commitment and leadership in one of the following areas: political, clinical, educational, or research and community service (this Committee will consider nominations recognizing contributions to medical education). Open to residents and early-career physicians (five years post-residency).

CMA Owen Adams Award of Honour
Recognizes contributions to the advancement of medical education and to the awareness of the value that lived experience (patient/caregiver insight) brings to health care in Canada. The Owen Adams Award of Honour is the highest CMA award available to a non-physician.
