About

These awards recognize the vital contributions of eligible staff who advance the strategic goals of the Medical Education Portfolio through elevating the everyday, ourselves, and each other. Up to three recipients will be named annually.

Eligibility Criteria

  • These awards are open to appointed or casual staff members employed by the Medical Education Portfolio. Staff in eligible units include: MD Program (Undergraduate), Postgraduate Medical Education (PGME), Continuing Professional Development (CPD), Physician Assistant Program, Integrated Physician Scientist Training, Standardized Patient Program (SPP), Learner Affairs, and the Office of the Vice-Dean Medical Education.

  • An individual can only be nominated in a single category each cycle.

  • Previous award winners of a given category are not eligible to be nominated again in the same award category for a five-year period.

Selection Criteria

There are three categories of awards, and up to one recipient will be selected for each:

  • Collaboration and Engagement Category: Elevating the Everyday
  • Professionalism Category: Elevating Ourselves
  • Leadership Category: Elevating Each Other

The nominees will be evaluated based on evidence of excellence in medical education administration – this award focuses not on what a person does, but on how they show up.

Expand the sections below for selection criteria:

Collaboration & Engagement: Elevating the Everyday

Fostering a collaborative, compassionate, and engaging work and/or learning environment. Depending on the nominee’s role, this may include:

  • Collaboration can occur within or across teams, programs, departments, or sites, as well as with learners, or the Medical Education broader community. \

  • Compassion in the work or learning environment might include acting in ways that are fair, ethical and respectful; facilitating psychologically, culturally, and physically safe learning and work environments; adopting humility and self-reflection.

  • Engagement can occur in the work or learning environment to create spaces to foster and sustain shared senses of purpose, coming together towards improving work experiences for all.

Professionalism: Elevating Ourselves

Demonstrating professionalism in our roles:

  • The way a nominee demonstrates professionalism will vary by role. Some examples may include but are not limited to embodying principles of equity and social accountability; showing responsiveness and thoughtfulness in interactions; creative problem solving or innovation.

Leadership: Elevating Each Other

Demonstrating leadership qualities regardless of title:

  • Leadership can occur in any position; it is demonstrated through actions, regardless of title or authority. Consider how the nominee demonstrates the University’s institutional leadership competencies of self-leadership, people leadership and/or institutional leadership.

  • Consider how the nominee serves as a role model or leads by example. Their influence can be seen by how they collaborate to inspire others and support positive change.
